The purpose of this program is to improve management of the difficult airway and increase the success of awake tracheal intubation. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1: Identify and manage a difficult airway.
2: Recognize conditions under which an awake tracheal intubation can be performed.
3: Successfully preoxygenate patients before induction of general anesthesia.
4: Define an optimal attempt at intubation and describe the conditions under which it should be abandoned.
5: Use appropriate methods for confirmation of endotracheal intubation.
