The purpose of this program is to improve anesthetic management of patients with pulmonary hypertension or endovascular disease requiring stent placement. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1: Identify the main chemical mediators involved in the pathophysiology of pulmonary hypertension.
2: Perform preoperative evaluation of a patient with pulmonary hypertension.
3: Recognize challenges often encountered in anesthetizing patients with pulmonary hypertension.
4: Manage a patient in pulmonary hypertensive crisis.
5: Choose an appropriate anesthetic technique for a patient undergoing endovascular placement of an aortic stent.
